Dr Kodati Vijayalakshmi comes from a family of freedom fighters of India. Her mother, Srimati Kodati Devaki Devi is a freedom fighter and recognized so by the Govt of India. Her late father, Sri Kodati Rajamallu was not only a freedom fighter but also took proactive and critical part in the political, social and economic development of the State of Andhra Pradesh and the Union of India. He was a highly respected leader of the people in the Chennur Legislative Assembly segment of Adilabad district in the state of Andhra Pradesh continuously without a break from 1952 (the first Assembly after India became independent) to 1978 and thereafter, up to 1982 he continued as an elected member of the Indian Parliament from Bellampally constituency when he died in harness as the Chairman, Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Commission, Govt of India, New Delhi. He was also hitherto the Cabinet Minister of Health & Family Planning in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Sri Kodati Rajamallu was a self made man and being himself from the backward class as defined by the Constitution of India, was the natural champion of the economically weaker sections of the Indian Society, with particular emphasis on the Scheduled Castes and Tribes. He was a staunch believer in Gandhian principles of social justice and equality. He believed in national reconciliation rather than confrontation. Dr Vijayalakshmi being the eldest daughter and close to her father imbibed his charitable ideals and the will of a do-gooder. She has developed a strong will to carry on her father's unfinished agenda for the region from which he was supported unflinchingly by the people from 1952 to 1983. Consequently, a society was registered after her father as Rajamallu Education Society to further charitable work in the field of education and health in Chennur mandal of Adilabad district in Andhra Pradesh state. Dr Kodati Vijayalakshmi has the will, characteristics and the acquired ability to implement the charitable programme from start to finish. Her intention is testified by the fact that even in her professional career options she chose to spend more time in charitable institutions like Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital and Research Centre rather than more economically beneficial corporate health care sector of Hyderabad.
