He was elected as the people’s representative from Chennur constituency for the first State Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh after India became independent in 1947. His high level of integrity and untiring efforts towards the up liftment of the backward classes in particular and economically weaker sections of the society in general resulted in his continuous and uninterrupted success in election process from 1952 to 1983. Kodati Rajamallu was the Cabinet Minister for Health & Family Welfare in Govt of Andhra Pradesh. He died in harness in 1983 as a Member of Parliament and as the Chairman of the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Commission, Govt of India, New Delhi. He believed that this could be achieved through delivery of quality and affordable education and health to all in general and the backward classes in particular. He believed in national reconciliation in the process of bettering the backward classes and not confrontation as it would result in permanency of any suitable solution.
After his death, his family decided to create the Society to further Kodati Rajamallu’s noble agenda to improve the economic status of the backward classes. Consequently, the objective of the Society is the up liftment of the rural population in the backward area of Chennur mandal of Adilabad district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Rajamallu Education Society is a charitable Non Government Organisation. Based on the above objectives the Society is aiming at providing Primary, Secondary, Collegiate and Technical Education with special emphasis on the Girl Child and Health Care with special focus on the mother and child segment for people in and around Chennur Mandal of Adilabad District.
The Society is named after the illustrious son of the soil, Sri Kodati Rajamallu who rose to become a highly regarded leader from the Chennur Legislative Assembly Constituency for 26 years from 1952 to 1978 and finally passed away in 1983 in harness as a Member of Parliament and Chairman of Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Commission, New Delhi. The Society in the first place has been created to keep alive Sri Rajamallu's ideals.
Kodati Rajamallu was the true representative of Gandhian principles of socialism, secularism and equality of opportunities on a level playing field to all citizens in India. He believed that this could be achieved through delivery of quality and affordable education and health to all in general and the backward classes in particular. He believed in national reconciliation in the process of bettering the backward classes and economically weaker sections of the society. After his death, his family decided to create the Rajamallu Education Society (RES) to further Kodati Rajamallu's noble agenda to improve the economic status of the backward classes.
Consequently, the objective of the Society is the upliftment of the rural population in the backward area of Chennur mandal of Adilabad district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Adilabad district is a declared backward area by the government. Chennur being predominantly a forest area is economically backward with fewer opportunities for the population to better themselves. Pursuant to the above mentioned objectives, Rajamallu Society (RES) had started an English medium school in 1996 in Kistampet village of Chennur Mandal with meager resources that were available in rented premises. The school has about 150 students from Nursery to the 7th class. Mr Kodati Pradeep, Vice President of the Society and the only son of Kodati Rajamallu together with his mother Srimati Kodati Devaki Devi persuaded the local unemployed graduates to help in eradication of illiteracy in the Kistampet village by taking up adult literacy work. Such efforts and encouragement blossomed in to establishment of a full time primary school using Telugu medium. Subsequently, the Society felt the need to also establish an English medium school. The associate Telugu medium school is now having classes up to the 10th. Thus the involvement of local talent has proved to be the pillar of success. Both schools enjoy good support and reputation. The Society has received permission from the Government to establish an Ayurvedic Medical College in Chennur. This would necessarily entail establishment of a 100 bedded hospital which would go a long way in meeting the urgent health care facilities required in the area which lacks the minimum facilities to tend to the population.
The Management of RES is professional. The President, Dr Kodati Vijayalakshmi, MBBS, FRCOG (UK) is an eminent gynaecologist and Obstetrician with twenty five years of practice and rich experience in medical administration as the Medical Superintendent of Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital & Research Center. Dr Kodati is the eldest daughter of Sri Kodati Rajamallu. The Vice President, Kodati Pradeep is an engineer and a revered social worker. His input ensures good local involvement which is critical for success of social projects like ours. The General Secretary, M. L. Narayan Rao is the administrator of the Society who has over forty years of direct line experience in various large and medium corporates in India. He has considerable experience in implementing several green field projects. He was last the Secretary cum Administrator of Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital & Research Centre. The Treasurer, A Rajesham is an engineer and the former Executive Director of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. He is also a recognized consultant for World Bank Projects. |
